<p>Leonard Sweet is the Founder and President of SpiritVenture Ministries (SVM), in 1995 Len launched Sweet&rsquo;s SoulCafe, a<br />
  spirituality newsletter for postmoderns that was purchased by Broadman&amp;Holman Publishing. Current 
  projects include a biography of Phoebe Palmer in the American religion biography series, a textbook
  on preaching entitled Giving Blood, The Leadership Myth (with Joseph R. Myers), and Pay Attention:<br />
  Every Bush is Burning. Len is also working on his fi rst novel (A Postmodern Pilgrim&rsquo;s Progress), and a
  multi-media leadership resource yet untitled.
  Author of more than one hundred articles, 600 published sermons and thirty books, Leonard is currently
  working on two textbooks: one on preaching and one on evangelism. His most recent books are The
  Gospel According to Starbucks, The Church of the Perfect Storm, 11 Indispensable Relationships You
  Can&rsquo;t Be Without, and early in 2009, So Beautiful: Divine Design for Life and the Church. In both 2006
  and 2007, Len has been voted by his peers as &ldquo;One of the 50 Most Infl uential Christians in America&rdquo; as
polled by ChurchReport magazine.</p>

<p>Rev. Jorge Acevedo give his first of two keynotes at the Bishop's School of Ministry.<br />

<p>Rev. Jorge Acevedo of the Florida Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church will proudly be featured<br />
  as the keynote speaker for the 2008 Bishop&rsquo;s School of Ministry being held at the Springmaid Beach Resort in Myrtle<br />
  Beach September 9-12. Acevedo was the 2001 recipient of the Denman Evangelism Award from the Florida Annual<br />
  Conference of the United Methodist Church and was named the Distinguished Alumni of the Year at Asbury Theological<br />
  Seminary. He serves on the Southeastern Jurisdiction and Florida Conference Episcopal Committees.<br />
  Co-author of the book, The Heart of Youth Ministry, published by Bristol Books in 1989, he has also written for<br />
  the United Methodist Publishing House, Circuit Rider magazine, Good News magazine and Our Faith Today. He was<br />
  also one of three featured pastors on the Keeping the Passion for Ministry Alive edition of the Willow Creek Association<br />
  Defining Moments CD with Bill Hybels.<br />
  Acevedo is the Lead Pastor at Grace Church in Cape Coral, Florida. Grace Church has grown in its weekend<br />
  attendance from 400 to over 2400 in the past twelve years and is recognized as having one of the largest and most<br />
effective recovery ministries in America.</p>

      <p><image src="a_25_ERT.png"><p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In  response to the two named storms having the potential to adversely affect the  southeast coastline within the next week, the South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist   Church is gearing up its  &ldquo;Flood Bucket&rdquo; aid program.<br />
  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; A  Flood Bucket&rsquo;s inventory is designed to provide flood victims with items  desperately needed to clean houses damaged by floodwaters.<br />
  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; To  fund future relief efforts, The United Methodist Conference Center in Columbia is accepting  flood bucket donations. The cost to equip a flood bucket is $50. Checks can be  made payable to the Conference Treasurer and can be sent to 4908 Colonial Drive  Columbia, SC 29203. Please note on the check that it is for Flood Buckets.<br />
  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Contributors  may also assemble their own, fully stocked &ldquo;flood buckets&rdquo; and deliver them to  the Columbia conference center. &nbsp;A flood  bucket inventory is listed below. <br />
  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; For more information, you may contact  Matt Brodie, director of communications, at 803-786-9486, ext. 265.&nbsp; </p>

Bishop J. Lawrence McCleskey retired today. McCleskey is closing out 45 years of ministry in the United Methodist Church. He spent the last 12 years as a Bishop. South Carolina was honored to have Bishop McCleskey from 1996 to 2004. McCleskey then spent 2004 to 2008 as the Bishop for the Western North Carolina Conference, which was his home conference.
