A Surprising Gift
Time. Twenty-four hours each day. Seven days each week. We all have the same amount, oddly enough. I read a book about keeping the sabbath once (I don't remember the title or author) that gave me a new way of thinking about time. The author raised the question of what it might be like to see the time we are given as an abundant gift from God. I have always felt and behaved as if there are not enough hours in the day to accomplish everything on my list. And that is true. Because it's my list. And at times, my list is neither healthy nor realistic.
Viewing time as an abundant resource can bring a renewed perspective. In these last few days before Christmas, my hope for all of us is that we recognize the gift of time...time with loved ones, time to notice the wonder in a child's eyes, time to sit around the table and reminisce, time to reflect on what is good about life.
Merry Christmas to all!
